If you’ve been around our blog, or followed us on social media you know we love working with kids and are big fans of finding ways to give back. For the past few years we’ve had the pleasure of working with Bert’s Big Adventure (you can read more about this wonderful non-profit HERE).  Troika studios who helps to share the magic of Bert’s Big Adventure through different media outlets recently interviewed us and this is what they made.

It’s the annual retreat of work and play.  The Bert’s Big Adventure staff retreat is a chance to bring the behind-the-scenes team together for a little work review, pre-planning, and some good old bonding.  This year the ladies behind Bert’s Big Adventure kept the itinerary jam packed with some surf lessons, kayaking, roof top dinners, and a little graffiti art compliments of the Troika studio boys.

It feels like an eternity since we last saw all of these amazing smiling faces, so it’s safe to say we were thrilled to catch up with so many families at the Bert’s Big Adventure summer reunion.  This pizza and pool party took place at Piedmont Park’s new pool facility, and if there is one thing kids love more than pizza it’s being in a pool.

*Everyone was eager to see Tiff and her quickly growing baby bump, and perhaps no one more than sweet Kristin Klingshirn.

M-I-C, see you real soon.  K-E-Y, why because we love you.  M-O-U-S-E.

It’s been such an incredible past five days you can’t help but shed a few tears, but this isn’t goodbye.  These families are now part of the much larger Bert’s Big Adventure family, so reunions are right around the corner.  For now though we are still soaking in what was an incredible 2013 Bert’s Big Adventure.

We’ve been having so much fun we almost forget to get our sneak peek up on the blog.  Day 2 found us living large with the Bert’s Big Adventure families at Animal Kingdom and Disney Hollywood Studios.  It’s hard to believe the trip is coming to a close, but there is still time to follow along on Twitter & Facebook.

It’s been an incredible first day, and since the clock just struck midnight (Cinderella pun intended) we are now officially on to our second full day at Disney World.  The 2013 Bert’s Big Adventure families are tucked away for the night, and exhausted they should be.  After all on Bert’s Big Adventure you don’t just visit Disney World… you visit DISNEY WORLD.  The families enjoyed breakfast at Tony’s, a stop by the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, time to explore the Magic Kingdom, a pool party, and so much more.  All and all it’s 14+ hours of non-stop excitement.

It’s hard to believe a year has already passed since we first met the families of Bert’s Big Adventure 2012.  Bert’s Big Adventure is in it’s 11th year of changing lives, and for the past two years we have been blessed and humbled to be able to be a part of this amazing organization.  Bert’s Big Adventure is a non-profit organization that provides a magical, all-expense paid, five day journey to Walt Disney World for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families.  At least this is where the experience begins.  Today Bert’s Big Adventure is so much more with year-round support through initiatives such as the Reunion Adventures, the Fairy Godparent volunteer program and additional charitable services.  Most of all the trip and programs create a community of families that support and care for others facing similar challenges.  It is truly a life changing program for the children, families, and for everyone behind the scenes.

For the staff, orientation marks how close the trip is.  For the kids, orientation marks the longest 42 days of anticipation and excitement.  This year’s trip includes 12 families and 13 children, and marks the first time Bert’s Big Adventure will be taking children from outside Georgia.  Nashville and Indianapolis both have a Bert’s Big Adventure family, and though they weren’t at ImagineIT! Children’s Museum for Orientation we can’t wait to see them real soon.  Now enough talking, and let’s just look at the cuteness from this year’s Bert’s Big Adventure Orientation.

The team behind Bert’s Big Adventure is simply amazing to work with.  Smart, creative, funny but most of all caring and kind.  They are the perfect blend of professionalism and big kid, and ideal for spending five days in Disney with these families.

We’re excited to be welcoming and working alongside Sarah Esther and Cassandra Young as the newest additions to the photography team.

It’s hard to believe next month we will be at Orientation for the 2013 Bert’s Big Adventure trip, but before we close out 2012 we had one last reunion to celebrate…and because it’s Christmas time it’s one of my favorites.  The Bert’s Big Adventure Holiday Reunion.  This year’s holiday reunion took place at the Fox Theatre with a performance of Beauty and the Beast, and though we couldn’t snap photos during the show we did get to spend time with the families and capture some sweet moments before the curtain went up.

Ready to hug it out the ladies behind Bert’s Big Adventure were at the door greeting every family as they arrived.

Tiff and sweet little Dariana.

With catering provided by Affairs to Remember we may have sneaked in for a chocolate chip cookie or two.

This was our first time working with Songs for Kids, but these guys were amazing and needless to say the kids loved them.

The kids couldn’t get enough of the always entertaining and funny Ken Scott.

Having celebrated 10 years of Bert’s Big Adventure trips Stacey unveiled a very special gift for the families with a commemorative 10th anniversary coffee table book.

It’s hard to believe the year is coming to close, and in one short month we’ll be meeting the 2013 Bert’s Big Adventure families.  If you would like to learn more about Bert’s Big Adventure, or ways you can donate CLICK HERE.

I can’t necessarily say I’m not a facial hair kind of guy because I have no idea.  I’ve never bothered to grow it out long enough to know, and in my head the idea of me with a mustache doesn’t fit….but it’s almost Movember.  The time of year to don a mustache and raise awareness for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer, and since last November my dad was being treated for prostate cancer it seems the right time to grow a little scruff in the name of a good cause.

If you’d like to donate to my Movember page, and help fund awareness and research CLICK HERE.

Happy Friday,
