If you’ve been around our blog, or followed us on social media you know we love working with kids and are big fans of finding ways to give back. For the past few years we’ve had the pleasure of working with Bert’s Big Adventure (you can read more about this wonderful non-profit HERE).  Troika studios who helps to share the magic of Bert’s Big Adventure through different media outlets recently interviewed us and this is what they made.

“Is it cool to see your all’s work all over the house?” Stacey asks.  I instinctively respond it is, but at the moment I didn’t realize just how cool and what a blessing it truly is.  We met the Weiss family right at the same time we first picked up cameras.  Stacey gave us some of our first opportunities to photograph when she asked Tiff to shoot Hollis’ 3 year old portraits.  I would link to those photos, but we didn’t yet have our blog…but if you want to check out some of our former shoots with Hollis CLICK HERE.  Since then we’ve had the opportunity to document Hollis and his older brother Hayden over the years as well as the entire Weiss family, The Bert Show, Bert’s Big Adventure and our random instagram images while hanging out with the lovely and always entertaining Weiss family.

A few weeks ago we blogged about out our upcoming shoot with The Bert Show.  This past Sunday we stepped into Big Studio at 8:00am and stepped out at 8:15pm, and somewhere in the middle we pulled off our first studio shoot.  Our e-mail to the creative team summarizes both how grateful we are for the experience, and how much we have learned and grown as photographers for having had this opportunity.

“I will try to keep this short, but I want to offer my sincerest thank you to everyone involved in yesterday’s shoot.  I had a nice talk with CJ after the shoot that gave me some insight on how the shoot seemed to flow and it was very encouraging.  Yesterday was the first time Tiff and I have ever shot inside a studio, and the first time I have ever shot with studio lights.  It is not lost on us how fortunate we are to have our very first studio shoot be for The Bert Show, and be as large a production as it was.  Thank you Bert, Stacey and everyone involved for giving us this opportunity.  I have to thank Tiff for finding Big Studio because I don’t think we could have had a better space, and thank you to Sarah the studio manager for showing me how to actually plug the studio lights in and turn them on.”

*Yes, I had no idea how to actually turn studio lights on before this.

Starting the day off on the cyc wall I had the lovely help of Tiff, Seth and Tara to sit in while I tested exposure.  Once set it was time for the cast of The Bert Show.

Part of the beauty of Big Studio is all of the set options it gives in one location.  After we wrapped the cyc it was only a slight shift to the left and we were able to continue our shots on this exposed brick wall.  Starting with The Bert Show cast and the entire Bert Show team.

M-I-C, see you real soon.  K-E-Y, why because we love you.  M-O-U-S-E.

It’s been such an incredible past five days you can’t help but shed a few tears, but this isn’t goodbye.  These families are now part of the much larger Bert’s Big Adventure family, so reunions are right around the corner.  For now though we are still soaking in what was an incredible 2013 Bert’s Big Adventure.

We’ve been having so much fun we almost forget to get our sneak peek up on the blog.  Day 2 found us living large with the Bert’s Big Adventure families at Animal Kingdom and Disney Hollywood Studios.  It’s hard to believe the trip is coming to a close, but there is still time to follow along on Twitter & Facebook.

Tomorrow is family day, and a chance for the families to do whatever they like, but be sure to tune in to The Bert Show Monday morning for the live broadcast from the ESPN Zone here at Disney.

It’s been an incredible first day, and since the clock just struck midnight (Cinderella pun intended) we are now officially on to our second full day at Disney World.  The 2013 Bert’s Big Adventure families are tucked away for the night, and exhausted they should be.  After all on Bert’s Big Adventure you don’t just visit Disney World… you visit DISNEY WORLD.  The families enjoyed breakfast at Tony’s, a stop by the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, time to explore the Magic Kingdom, a pool party, and so much more.  All and all it’s 14+ hours of non-stop excitement.

For the past two years we have been very blessed to be involved with the organization Bert’s Big Adventure.  God always seems to line things up beautifully, and our paths crossing with this amazing non-profit and the team behind it was not only a blessing for us in our business, but as a couple, and quite simply as individuals.  Every year the Bert’s Big Adventure trip gives as much to us emotionally as it gives to the families.  It’s a refresher that reminds us of our priorities and the power of seeking outside oneself to serve others.

We’re one week from meeting up with the families of Bert’s Big Adventure 2013, and as we organize and pack for our third trip we can’t wait to capture and share all the smiling faces.  If you’d like to check out images from last year’s Bert’s Big Adventure trip CLICK HERE, but here is a peek back at 2012′s Breanna as she sees Cinderella’s castle for the first time.

Now it’s not a debut song…or even us talking for that matter, but we were pretty excited the other day when we heard our company’s name on the radio.

It’s hard to believe a year has already passed since we first met the families of Bert’s Big Adventure 2012.  Bert’s Big Adventure is in it’s 11th year of changing lives, and for the past two years we have been blessed and humbled to be able to be a part of this amazing organization.  Bert’s Big Adventure is a non-profit organization that provides a magical, all-expense paid, five day journey to Walt Disney World for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families.  At least this is where the experience begins.  Today Bert’s Big Adventure is so much more with year-round support through initiatives such as the Reunion Adventures, the Fairy Godparent volunteer program and additional charitable services.  Most of all the trip and programs create a community of families that support and care for others facing similar challenges.  It is truly a life changing program for the children, families, and for everyone behind the scenes.

For the staff, orientation marks how close the trip is.  For the kids, orientation marks the longest 42 days of anticipation and excitement.  This year’s trip includes 12 families and 13 children, and marks the first time Bert’s Big Adventure will be taking children from outside Georgia.  Nashville and Indianapolis both have a Bert’s Big Adventure family, and though they weren’t at ImagineIT! Children’s Museum for Orientation we can’t wait to see them real soon.  Now enough talking, and let’s just look at the cuteness from this year’s Bert’s Big Adventure Orientation.

The team behind Bert’s Big Adventure is simply amazing to work with.  Smart, creative, funny but most of all caring and kind.  They are the perfect blend of professionalism and big kid, and ideal for spending five days in Disney with these families.

The past year has given us so much to be thankful for.  The friendships we developed, the adventures we had, the little victories we won.  All of it has served to enrich our lives, and help us grow not only as artists but as people.  Thinking back over the past year these moments stood out as some of our favorites. In no particular order we’ll start off with:
